Noravank monastery complex is located 120 km from the Capital Yerevan. It is located in the Vayots Dzor region. The road passes through the Ararat valley, vineyards and orchards, then goes up into the mountains. The first church Surb Karapet was built in the 4th century on the site of an ancient monastery and was rebuilt in the 9th century. The monastery was founded in 1205, and in 1216 the church of Surb Stepanos was built, and the monastery complex itself began to be called Noravank, which means “New monastery”. The most majestic in the complex is the Surb Astvatsatsin Church. It is a two-story church with cantilever staircases. Above the entrances and windows of the churches, there are bas-reliefs of unique work. Famous masters such as Siranes and Momik worked on the construction of all the churches, who left an inimitable trace in Armenian architecture. The complex harmoniously fits into the surrounding nature. The magnificent landscape of Noravank gorge and surrounded by red mountains leaves an unforgettable impression.
