Overview

Aragats is the highest mountain in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. On the slopes of this
volcanic mountain wine has grown since ancient times. ThIs wine region of Armenia is called
Aragatsotn. Which means on the slopes of Aragats. And Aragatsotn is the homeland of one of
the oldest white grapes in the world. We call this sort Voskehat which means “golden berry”.
“She” is also called “the queen of Armenian grapes”.
We can call this trip also “wine and archeology”. Let me explain why.
We will start our trip in the morning and will drive to Amberd fortress. Situated 2300m above sea
level, it looks truly like the “fortress on the clouds”: like its name says. This is one of the oldest
standing fortresses in Armenia. And the guests will not only listen to the history about the
fortress, but also will enjoy the view of surrounding peaks and landscapes.
Later we will move down to the village of Aghtsk. This is believed to be the mausoleum of the
Armenian Arsacid dynasty. You are going to explore how the mausoleum can be connected to
wine. We promise you a lot of interesting information!
The tired stop in our trip will be even older than the last two. We talk about the necropolis of
Verin Naver. About 500 tombs have been preserved in the necropolis of Verin Naver, which
existed for about one and a half millennia (23rd-7th century BC). You won’t believe it, but yes,
here we also have a lot to tell you about wine! And if you are a sensitive person please ask the
guide to gently pass this stop and tell you a few things at the car/coach.
And the last informative stop is going to be The Wine History of Armenia. But don’t worry here
you won’t stay thirty! During and after the museum we are going to taste some wines from the
company who played a very important role in the creation of this amazing museum.
Lunch and wine tasting afterwards.
Right after lunch we will move to the other factory. Here we will also learn about grapes and
wines of Armenia, the family history and enjoy wonderful wines. And since we are in the center
of the highest mountains of Armenian Highland, you will also get beautiful photos or simply
enjoy the views.
